Radiation therapy

The irradiated areas will depend on the presentation of the disease and the type of surgery performed. After lumpectomy, the remaining breast tissue must be irradiated, in many cases with an overdose (boost) on the tumour bed. After mastectomy, the chest wall must be treated. Irradiation of lymph nodes (axillary, infra- and supra-clavicular, as well as the internal mammary chain) may also be necessary, depending on anatomical and pathological data.
